I have long wanted to do more than just share my thoughts and experiences with you, but I wanted to make sure that I was posting more than just an activity especially since authentic resources and integrating language skills is so important to us all. So here it is, the very first fully integrated, authentic resource based lesson that I am sharing with you. While it is Spanish based, it would be so easy to transition into another language based on a similar resource.
Overview of the Lesson:
The focus city for my district's current level 2 unit is Buenos Aires and our communicative focus is, "living in a Spanish speaking city." In this lesson I take my students through a virtual tour of Buenos Aires using their own smart devices. They will explore various attractions and neighborhoods in that city, plan their transportation for day tour and then write me an email to tell me all about how they managed their day in Buenos Aires.
Learning Targets / Can Do Statements:
- navigate around a target culture/language city.
- describe people, places, objects and events.
- explain why a certain place meets my needs.
- express my thoughts, feelings and opinions and ask others about theirs.
- talk about a past event based on a prompt.
Please allow me to give a very special thanks to HotelesenBuenosAires.com.uy for the beautiful tourist map this whole lesson is based upon. As a side note, to make the lesson even more authentic visit Pandora.com and search for the Tango Jointz station. This station plays lots of modernized tango for your students to enjoy in the background.
I am very excited about this lesson and am currently teaching from it now. There are so many great things going on because the kids are working with an authentic resource for an authentic scenario. I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas about it, so please be sure to reach out and let me know what you think! Also, if you modify it for another language and culture share it with me and I will add it to this post crediting you!
Happy Coaching, friends!
